kim kardashian just posted about talking to chatgpt… diva…
why we need outspoken celebrities over trend chasers in this moment
Hi girls.
Just a short little post today. Like so short, I don’t even have a quippy, backstory-esque intro paragraph to give you right now. So, I’ll just hop into it: Kim Kardashian posted on her INSTAGRAM STORY her talking to ChatGPT…
As we roll through the horrors that is this second Trump administration and people who simply don’t care about others’ humanities or even the planet they’re on, I’m reminded of two things I talked about before this year went into full swing.
The need for celebrities — helpful allies, though NOT an end all, be all source of a moral code — to resist the lurch towards conservatism and be supportive of their fans and other celebrities who stand up for justice.
The Kardashians, particularly Kim, as (attempted) figures of what’s trending in society, due to their ability to immediately shapeshift into whatever mold they think they need to be.
So, to say this IG story is disappointing would be an understatement. …Actually, maybe less disappointing1 and more frustrating.
In a world where folks have never been lonelier, our data is being sold to God knows who literally every second, and AI’s net-negative environmental impact, an IG story of you talking to (ostensibly) a robot regurgitating bullshit at you seems — all offense — stupid.2 But that does not matter to Kim. The gratification of seemingly having your finger on the pulse of where we are, impact be damned, is of more importance.
And this isn’t the first time we’ve had to roll our eyes at something floptina she’s done this year.
Recall just a few months ago, when Miss Kim sensually posed with Elon’s Cybertruck and Tesla robots. That photoshop occurred quite literally as that K-riddled man3 and DOGE ravaged through the federal government and removed important jobs and regulations. But the check cleared, even as Tesla sales and stocks fell!4
Here’s the thing: if you know me, you’re aware that I’m an advocate for 1) speaking on issues only when you know what you’re talking about and 2) understanding that celebrities are humans and sometimes don’t always meet the moment. And that’s okay.
Howeverrrr, when you talk about prison reform and harmful ICE raids one moment and then face scandals including AI, Tesla, and your son’s YouTube account attacking a Black woman the next, you come off disingenuous. We need celebs who are willing to buck against what seems like an easy slide to the right-wing and be authentic every step of the way.
Unfortunately, every step made by Miss Kim has been the wrong one. For years, it’s been clear that she wants to be a piece of American iconography, similar to a Jackie Kennedy- or Marilyn Monroe-like figure. Hell, she literally told us as much a few Met Galas ago. However, her biggest obstacle will always be her constant provocation — not in the pursuit of being herself. Not in the quest of doing the “right” thing. Not even just for the sake of it. Rather, her provoking nature is the result of consistent misfires in the quest of blending in.
One more thing: The worst part? The post seems to tease that she’s writing a book… with the help of AI. Mama, just hire a ghostwriter like the rest of your peers. And watch the Academy Award-winning film Her (2013)5 while you’re at it!!!
As always, would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. And don’t forget to like, restack, subscribe, and share with your friends.
Until our next talk (‘:
That would require me believing there was a chance for her to do the right thing.
I’ll be candid here and say that AI as a concept makes me sick, especially as someone who likes to believe they’re a creative. Hence why I furiously typed up this word vomit, lol.
Allegedly… I don’t wanna get sued.
All of that shilling just to flop???
One of my favorite movies, btw!!! Spike Jonze and Sofia Coppola: they could never make me form a solid opinion about your relationship dynamic. (‘:
This is what happens when you’re fake. She’s consistently been chasing the original high of being the ‘moment’ by gambling on whatever the next big thing might be. Now her age is showing in that she’s not exposed to the zeitgeist where she could or would have her finger on the pulse because, ironically, she’s become the problem. I do think ‘age’ has less to do with wrinkles and more to do with the ability to understand the era.
"her provoking nature is the result of consistent misfires in the quest of blending in." exactlyyyyyyy
